A chance to play with a whole host of
different media to create juicy journal backgrounds that are truly mixed-media!
Be prepared to experiment and play, building many layers in your journal
backgrounds using a combination of acrylic paints, ink sprays, pastels, pencils
… and anything else you can lay your hands on! Incorporate drawn elements and
scraps of ephemera, to build a background that is uniquely ‘you’. Learn how to combine many colours without
making mud on the page. Come with an open mind and a willingness to play …..
and
if you’ve got art stuff at home that you
never use, bring it along, and use it to develop your own voice and style.

doo·dle
/ˈdo͞odl/
Random, thoughtless drawings on
whatever topics happen to be flowing through the artists' head.
Not only is doodling relaxing and
therapeutic, it is a fantastic way to build your own personal library of marks
and symbols which can be incorporated into your future journal pages. Following
Kate’s guidance and prompts, have a go at doodling using a whole host of
different pens, pencils and colours, and create your very own pages of
delicious doodles which can be bound into a useful journaling book at the end
of the day.

If you have been participating in Kate’s
calendar challenge, or if you’re thinking about starting an art calendar, then
come and spend the day getting prepped for the months ahead. You will have
access to a wide variety of mediums to complete your pages, including acrylic
paints, Dylusions inks, pastels and gelatos, as well as a whole host of rubber
stamps (including lots of new images) to add interest to your pages. Filling in
each day on these calendars isn’t time consuming at all, but sometimes finding
the time to have your page ready for the month ahead can seem like an
impossible task. So this is the perfect opportunity to get ahead!
Required: Large journal or sketchbook.
28th and 29th September

layers, and build them to create luscious mixed-media backgrounds. Kate will
encourage you to follow your instincts and discover your own style. There will
be hints and tips for how, where and what to write on the page with plenty of

Well I've had the most enjoyable day today. I really had a lot of fun at Art from the Heart (AFTH), .... it should be dished out as therapy ..... I sang all the way home in the car on cloud nine! The paint-ier my hands (and face) got today the happier I became. Kate Crane was of course on top form again drawing out the secret artist inside you. I'm always surprised about all the creative things I've made when I get home. If you've not been for a class there, then you should seriously think about having a go.
We're back home from England! We've had a great workshop from Kate Crane! Kate thanks for this gorgeous weekend!!
That was a fantastic fun-filled weekend, thanks
I was lucky enough to attend Kate Crane's class on golden paints today - fantastic! So much info and techniques stuffed into the class, image transfer with gesso and golden mediums, texture paste, glazes, layered journal pages and so much info about golden paints and how to use them. I definitely
recommend the class!
It really was a great day - lots of fab techniques, the chance to play with new products and a really nice
group of people :-)
Thank you Kate for another fab day teaching us all how to draw faces.
Awesome day Kate - thanks - I'm pleased I drew something other than cartoonish stuff!!! Fab day.
Thanxs Kate for getting me addicted to another technique.
Thanks Kate for another amazing class.

We had a fab day playing with the new stampotique stamps!! Thanks Kate Crane for and awesome day and for sharing your new stamps!
I had a really fantastic time. It's the people, the teacher, and the environment, it just brings out the best in all of us. Thanks for the brilliant tips Kate, I'll never forget them.
